About the project

Website bashlachev. spb. ru is a digital memorial dedicated to the poet and rock musician Alexander Bashlachev. The project is called Homo Cantans, which translates as a singing man. The author took this definition from his own interview in 1986, where he introduced himself to Andrei Knyshev. For Bashlachev, this was not just a word, but the essence of his existence: he painted, flew, swam, but the main thing was singing with a guitar.

Alexander was born in Cherepovets in 1960 and passed away in Leningrad just 27 years later. Despite the short period of time, he managed to create more than a hundred poems, and the lion's share of the most famous works was written in two years. The comparison with Lermontov is appropriate here: both poets died young, but their contribution to Russian culture is not comparable to the number of pages in their collected works. As the artist Vladimir Shinkarev noted, Bashlachev’s path could become the main road of Russian art if someone else followed it.
