About the project
Website impn. ru is the official resource of the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution Scientific Research Institute of Medical Problems of the North. This is not just an information portal, but a digital representation of a serious scientific structure that is part of the Federal Research Center Krasnoyarsk Scientific Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The Institute was created back in 1976 by order of the USSR Ministry of Health. Its main mission is formulated clearly and without embellishment: preserving and developing the health of the population of Siberia and the North in conditions of a long active life. Today, the institution continues this work under the leadership of director Eduard Vilyamovich Kasparov, who is also a doctor of medical sciences and professor.
Main directions
The activities of the institute are based on an in-depth study of the specifics of the region. Scientists focus on three key vectors:
- Epidemiology and pathogenesis. Study of the most common infectious and non-infectious diseases in both adults and children living in the north and Siberia.
- Adaptation of the body. Analysis of how basic human systems function in harsh climatic conditions. Particular attention is paid to the differences between the newcomer population and the indigenous peoples.
- Methods of treatment and prevention. Development of effective diagnostic, therapy and rehabilitation schemes for residents of the region.
For almost half a century of work, a solid scientific potential has been accumulated. The Institute defended 52 doctoral and 250 candidate dissertations. Now there are 24 doctors of science and 23 candidates working here. The employees have included about 500 expeditions, more than 100 conferences, 141 monographs, 108 collections of works and 109 patents for inventions.
Important health education information is also published on the website. For example, a mop-up immunization campaign against rubella was recently launched. This is critical because the disease carries a high risk of developing congenital rubella syndrome in children if pregnant women become infected with the virus.
