Lithosphere is a serious scientific peer-reviewed journal that has long occupied its niche in the world of geological research. Published by the Institute of Geology and Geochemistry of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences since December 2000, and during this time it has become an important source of current data in the field of solid Earth. Since April 2024, the publication has switched to an online magazine format, while maintaining its print status, which indicates its significance.
The journal is focused on a deep understanding of the structure and dynamics of the lithosphere - the upper part of the earth's crust. Articles are published here in such areas as the process of magmatism, metamorphism, mineralogenesis, ore formation, as well as sedimentation and sedimentation. Particular attention is paid to methods of searching for minerals, the geophysical features of the planet, modern technologies for monitoring the environment and predicting disasters - be they natural or man-made phenomena.
Well, they are also actively developing geoanalytical approaches that make it possible to obtain more accurate data on the composition of rocks, their age, and conditions of formation. All this is important not only for the scientific community, but also for practitioners in mining, ecology, and engineering.
Firstly, it belongs to the first category (K1) on the VAK list - this is a serious indicator of quality. Such journals are taken as the basis for defending master's and doctoral dissertations. Secondly, it is included in the White List at level 3 - also an important fact. This indicates that the publication has undergone strict testing for compliance with international standards.
Indexed in several large systems: Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI), Scopus (Q4), Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI). Also available through Russian electronic library systems. And yes, it's open access - no one has to pay to read articles. In addition, the journal is registered in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ Seal), which means it meets high requirements for transparency and quality.
Another plus - each article receives a DOI via CrossRef. This ensures that each study is uniquely identified, making it easy to find and cite. The frequency of publication is six issues per year, that is, the information is updated regularly. The publication languages are Russian and English, which opens access to a wide audience.
Everything on the site is organized simply and clearly. There are sections: Home, About the magazine, Latest issue, Archive, News, Editorial Charter, Submit an article, Rules for authors. There is an Advanced Search button - convenient for those who want to find a specific topic or author. You can also log in with your account, change the interface language (Russian English) - everything works without unnecessary difficulties.
Volume 25, 3 (2025) is now out. This issue publishes work on the petrographic features of the Lower Riphean sandstones of the Mukun series in the southeast of the Anabar Shield. The authors examined samples from the Bolshaya Kuonamka River, used U-Pb dating of detrital zircon, mineral composition analysis, X-ray diffraction and spectral methods. The results show that sedimentation occurred in a shallow and quiet environment, with the erosion of a stable continental block. The most significant zircon age cluster is about 1965 Ma, which is associated with Proterozoic granulite metamorphism on the Anabar Shield.
The magazine not only exists - it is actively developing. It is registered by Roskomnadzor: Certificate El FS77-87191 dated April 27, 2024. This means that the site is officially operating and is under state control. There are no signs of a plug or technical problems here. All functions are available: login, registration, downloading articles, viewing archives.
So if you are a scientist, student, engineer, specialist in the field of geology, this journal should definitely be on your list of sources. It not only provides up-to-date data, but also helps to understand how processes work inside the Earth, from ancient to modern.
Six issues are published a year, that is, almost every month there is one new issue, this is a fairly high frequency for scientific publications of this level.
Yes, all materials are available without payment - this is open access. All content can be downloaded and used. The journal is included in DOAJ, which guarantees transparency and legality of publications.
Yes, it is indexed in Scopus (Q4), RSCI, RSCI and other systems. This means that his articles are recognized abroad, especially in the CIS countries and Europe.
The printed edition began publication in December 2000. That is, it has been working for more than 23 years - it is not just a fashion trend, but an established scientific community.
