About the project

Ohio Sea Grant is an Ohio State program that operates under the auspices of The Ohio State University. Their main goal is simple and clear: to promote knowledge and responsible stewardship of Lake Erie and the Great Lakes as a whole. The program brings together researchers, educators and public affairs professionals to make informed decisions on the region's environmental and economic issues.

It is important that they act impartially. The Stone Laboratory team and program staff collaborate with local communities, drawing on scientific evidence and local resident experiences. Main directions

The program's activities are clearly structured around three key pillars:

• Research. Scientists are focusing on Lake Erie's most pressing problems. The list of priorities includes harmful algal blooms and sustainable community development issues. For example, there are projects collecting data on algae and zooplankton to monitor ecosystem health.
• Education. Stone Lab offers classes, workshops and retreats. These programs are designed specifically for students and working professionals who need practical skills to protect water bodies.
• Information work (Outreach). Extension agents work right on the coast. They deliver scientific decision-making tools to local residents and businesses, helping to apply science to real life.
