About the project
Website ra. iaran. ru is a digital representation of the journal Russian Archeology. This is a fundamental scientific publication that has existed for more than half a century. The history of the project began in 1957, when, on the initiative of the head of the Moscow archaeological school A.V. Artsikhovsky, the quarterly journal Soviet Archeology was created. Until this point, from 1936 to 1959, the materials were published in the form of a non-periodic almanac under the same name.
The publication is aimed strictly at the professional community - archaeologists, historians of material culture, art and architecture. The chronological scope of the material extends from the origins of human development to the beginning of the New Age, that is, to the era of Peter I, which is traditionally considered a milestone for Russian archaeology.
Main directions
The magazine publishes only original author's works. The formats include articles, short notes, book reviews and chronicles of scientific forums. A special place is occupied by personalities - anniversary articles and obituaries of outstanding scientists.
In addition to purely scientific discussions, the editors actively participate in the discussion of issues of organizing archaeological work. An important area is the development of legislation for the protection of the archaeological heritage of Russia and the implementation of other activities in this area.
Particular attention is paid to the ethics of science. The magazine considers amateur collecting of antiquities as an activity that contradicts the European Convention for the Protection of the Archaeological Heritage, Russian legislation and general humanitarian norms. Since 2013, materials based solely on the analysis of objects and contexts obtained legally (through an open sheet) or stored in the State Museum Fund have been accepted for publication.

The site serves as an information center for subscribers and authors. Rules for authors, the composition of the editorial boards and information about the responsibility of the editorial board are published here.
The review process is strictly regulated. Articles undergo technical verification for compliance with design, volume and quality of illustrations. The material is then passed on to one or two specialists in the same field. Reviewers are recommended by members of the editorial board and council, which includes the country's leading archaeologists.
Editorial meetings are held at least four times a year for analytical discussion of each article and the formation of the issue. All reviews are stored by the publishing house and editorial office for five years. Authors receive copies of reviews or a reasoned refusal.If necessary, the publication undertakes to send copies of reviews to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
It is important to note the current subscription situation. Due to a change of publisher, subscription through Russian Post has been suspended. It can only be issued through specialized agencies: Ural-press, Kniga-service, Ivis, Pressinform and Russpressa.
