The journal Cultural and Human Geography is an attempt to understand how a person sees the world around him. How he interprets it. What images are born in your head when looking at a landscape, a city, or just a corner of the earth.

What does cultural geography even mean? Well, not just about rivers, mountains and plains. It's deeper here. It's about symbols. About metaphors. About how people attach their feelings, stories, myths to places. Why some places seem sacred, others abandoned. Why every city has its own spirit. Or maybe more than one?

In the site archive you can find materials for 2012-2013. It still works, albeit with a pause. But the work continues - through publications that breathe intellectual tension. For example, an article about the ethnic landscapes of Podolia. Or a study about the hidden city in the Old Believers. It seems that every text here is a small book that talks about something important. About what cannot be measured with a tape measure.

What is especially interesting is that the magazine is not limited to one country. He talks about the Balkans, where identities are intertwined like threads. About India, where Western cultural geography came, but responded in its own way. There are topics about fashion and women's spatial freedom - yes, even at the level of dresses. This is not a joke. Everything is serious here. Because clothes are also a form of expressing yourself in the world.

An interesting point: the site is associated with two large projects. The first is the creation of an atlas of mental maps of Russian regions. That is, a map that does not show roads, but records how people generally see their land. What do cities, rivers, forests mean to them? And the second is the salvation of lost Russian toponymy abroad. What names disappeared after emigration? How can they be brought back into memory? It's almost an archeology of words.
